MUMBAI:
Sharad Pawar today denied newspaper reports that claimed that
his family had bid for an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchisee
during the auctions conducted early this year.
He
said that no member of his family is involved in any IPL team
or in the bidding process or has taken interest in bidding.
There was a newspaper report that he and and his family held
16 per cent stake in one of the bidders for the Pune IPL team
which eventually went to Sahara.
Pawar
also maintained that City Corporation MD Anirudh Deshpande
had bid for the Pune team in his individual capacity.
Lalit
Modi not surprisingly is standing behind Pawar. He said, "Talk
of Pawar's involvement is a joke. Deshpande bid in his own
name. This was qualified. He put together a consortium. And
also mentioned that a new company will be formed. City Corp
was not the actual bidder. Except to show the net worth of
one promoter."
