MUMBAI:
66-year-old broadcaster John Alexander Montgomery Cushnie,
who featured on the BBC Radio 4 show for almost 15 years,
died following a heart attack.
Cushnie
was a regular panellist on Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time
and a contributor to The Daily Telegraph. He, however, predominantly
made his living through a landscape gardening business based
in Northern Ireland.
Born
on May 14 1943, Cushnie was brought up at Lurgan in Co Armagh.
When young, his father, a supervisor in a factory which made
spectacles, divided the family's garden in half, giving one
half to John and the other to his brother Tom, commanding
that they should look after their respective plots. According
to family lore, John - unlike his brother - made a stunning
success of his half.
