UK pubcaster The BBC's children's channel CBBC has taken home five awards, including
two for Newsround the only daily current affairs programme for young
people at the inaugural KidScreen Awards. The
new awards aim to pay tribute to content from around the world that entertains
and engages the audiences. BBC
Children's director Joe Godwin says, "It's especially satisfying to win awards
for really distinctive and hard-hitting factual and drama, which has always been,
and always will be, a unqiue and central part of what BBC Children's does." The
Newsround Special Gone took two awards: Best One-Off, Special or TV
Movie 2010 in the Kids Category and Best Writing 2010 in the Creative Talent Awards. The
documentary explored the issue of bereavement and how it affects children's lives.
Presented by Bafta award-winning presenter, Barney Harwood, it told the story
of four children all of whom have lost someone they love. Dustbin
Baby won Best One-Off, Special or TV Movie 2010 in Family Category and Best
Acting 2010 in the Creative Talent Awards. It follows the story of a teenager
who sets out to discover her origins and, along the way, discovers where she belongs. Escape
From Scorpian Island, a real-life adventure game for children, won best Best
Non-Animated or Mixed Series 2010. |
