MUMBAI: UK pubcaster The BBC's children's channel CBBC has taken home five awards, including two for Newsround – the only daily current affairs programme for young people – at the inaugural KidScreen Awards.

The new awards aim to pay tribute to content from around the world that entertains and engages the audiences.

BBC Children's director Joe Godwin says, "It's especially satisfying to win awards for really distinctive and hard-hitting factual and drama, which has always been, and always will be, a unqiue and central part of what BBC Children's does."

The Newsround Special – Gone took two awards: Best One-Off, Special or TV Movie 2010 in the Kids Category and Best Writing 2010 in the Creative Talent Awards.

The documentary explored the issue of bereavement and how it affects children's lives. Presented by Bafta award-winning presenter, Barney Harwood, it told the story of four children – all of whom have lost someone they love.

Dustbin Baby won Best One-Off, Special or TV Movie 2010 in Family Category and Best Acting 2010 in the Creative Talent Awards. It follows the story of a teenager who sets out to discover her origins and, along the way, discovers where she belongs.

Escape From Scorpian Island, a real-life adventure game for children, won best Best Non-Animated or Mixed Series 2010.
