BANGALORE: Star’s Kannada offering Suvarna will start beaming a new mega serial ‘Bombeyatavayya’ from 13 December, daily Monday to Friday at the 7 pm slot.

The half-hour show is being produced by Jai Mata Combines, a home banner of Kannada film director Prakash. Prakash has made hit movies such as Kushi, Rishi and Milana, as well as a popular Kannada teleserial ‘Lakumi’.

The production house has competed 25 episodes of ‘Bombeyatavayya’. Director Srikanth Hublikar says that he will have canned around 40 episodes by the end of December. The serial features Prathama as the main lead. Prathama, a danseuse and daughter of film actress Vinaya Prasad, makes her debut on the small screen with ‘Bombeyatavayya’.

‘Bombeyatavayya’ is based on an insight: life is like a puppet show by God who will decide every move. The soap depicts how certain crucial decisions and incidents occur in our lives that are beyond one’s control – none of us are free from God’s grand designs and what the divine has in store for us is the underlying message.

“Suvarna is a family entertainment channel and our serials like Lakumi, Guru Raghvendra, Sindhoora and Classmates are widely popular," says Suvarana business head Anup Chandrasekharan.

Talking about the channel’s strategy, Chandrasekharan says,” We have a lot of innovative programming, be it the serial, the fiction or of the reality genre that has ensured stickiness of viewers as well as shown viewer growth. GEC TV channels in South India target the female 35 plus audiences during primetime. We have been trying to broaden the segment to bring in the 15-25 age groups.”
