Sahara's Pune Warriors take guard

MUMBAI: Sahara announced that its Indian Premier League (IPL) team will be known as Sahara Pune Warriors.

The name and the logo of the team - a warrior sitting on a horse - was unveiled on Saturday by Sahara India chairman Subroto Roy. 'It is a moment of great happiness for us to announce the name of the Pune IPL team for the people of the city and cricket enthusiasts across the world," he said.

The event was anchored by Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar and director Mahesh Manjerakar.

"We have just started journey and in the short span the support and affection received from the people here is very heartening and makes me feel that Pune is my second home" Roy said.

Sahara is committed to promoting young talent in the city and also has plans of setting up of an International Sports Academy at its Amby Valley project in the vicinity. The home matches of the Pune IPL team will be played at the MCA stadium currently under construction about 25 km from the city.
