Twitter on Airtel Digital TV is an innovative product launched as part of our continuous efforts to enrich the lives of our customers, says Shashi Arora
Airtel Digital TV customers can enjoy the live Twitter feed starting 22 October. The service will allow customers to not only see, but also tweet their views on the popular TV programmes, celebrities, sports personalities among a host of other events on their TV screen, and all this while enjoying their favourite programmes. Not only this, the tweets will be broadcast Live and one can read their tweets on the TV screen along with the tweets of their favourite celebrities.
“Twitter on Airtel Digital TV is an innovative product launched as part of our continuous efforts to enrich the lives of our customers. Given the ever increasing popularity of Twitter across the globe with over 500 million tweets generated every day including breaking news and first reactions which trend within minutes of its occurrence, all our customers will now be a part of the convergence phenomenon along with the rest of the world,” said Airtel Digital TV CEO Shashi Arora.
Once the service is activated, the Airtel Digital TV viewer will be introduced to a blurb asking if they want to activate the twitter feed service. “Customers can just press the green key on their Airtel Digital TV remote to enable and access the service. a box on the right of the TV screen will show all twitter feeds about the show/movie that a viewer is watching,” said an official.
In the process, all the popular news feed is picked up and displayed Live. The customer will also get a hash-tag to tweet. Since they cannot tweet from the remote, the customers can use their personal twitter handle and tweet from their mobile phones and laptops. The customer has to just use the hash-tag that is shown on the screen.
Customers will benefit from the service as well, as they will be the first one to receive the tweet in case a news breaks. The customers can also comment about the whole event. The service is a wow factor for the customer. It is convergence of micro blogging and TV viewing.
The service can be turned off at any given time by closing the tweet window and can turned on by pressing the same green key again. Customers can send their tweets on any TV show with the specific hash-tags prompted on their TV screen, which will be broadcast Live by Airtel Digital TV.
Powered by Brizz TV, the service can be enjoyed by all Airtel Digital TV customers across the country on any set-top-box at no additional cost. Even customers who either have no access to internet or are not active on Twitter currently can experience it on their TV screens. Initially, the service will be available on select TV channels and will be extended to others later.
Twitter vice president business development & platform Jana Messerschmidt commented, “Twitter is public, real time and conversational, which makes it a perfect companion to television viewing. We are excited to see partners like Airtel innovating with our platform and helping their audience connect with the TV programs they love.”
