Channel [V] launches Beauty and the Geek

MUMBAI: Channel [V] is getting a new relationship based reality show format Beauty and the Geek to India.

Starting 19 March, the show will air every Saturday at 7 pm. A successful International format, Beauty and the Geek pits two opposites together - drop dead looks sans brains, “The Beauties” and the brains sans smartness, “The Geeks”.

The show has already seen 23 local versions to date. Other licensed territories include Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Colombia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Turkey, and the UK.

With its launch into the Indian market, the series will be making its debut in the Asia region.

Bulldog Media & Entertainment will produce the show for Channel [V]. It has acquired the licence from Twentieth Century Fox.

10 stunning girls will be paired against 11 Geeks in Goa. The emerging winner couple will get a cash prise of Rs 1 million.

Channel [V] EVP and GM Prem Kamath said, "This show becomes really interesting in the Indian context. Culturally, our society has always placed great emphasis on both, beauty as well as on brains and academic achievement. This show brings these two together in a way that has never been done before."

Bulldog Media & Entertainment co-founder and joint MD Ramit Bharti Mittal said, "This is a social experiment, not a dating show. We want to see what happens when you put a group of good looking girls and geeky guys together. With the Beauty and the Geek Hindi language version ready for global audiences, we will start the process of rolling out more successful international television franchises in India."

The show will witness the teams going through challenges, with the biggest one to develop his charisma and her brains. The contestants will be seen becoming life coaches to their partners, training them for the challenge ahead.

In each episode, the geek will be seen tutoring his beauty before she heads into a challenge designed to test her intellect. And before the geek has his social skills challenged, the beauty will be seen instructing him on the fine art of flirting and dating in the modern jungle. Each will have to overcome his or her limitations by depending on the teammate‘s strengths to improve and ultimately to win.
