MUMBAI: What's the new beacon of Bollywood doing in Cannes at the festival this year?

Well, we are referring to Ronnie Screwvala who has been making waves internationally as a filmmaker who means business and his group UTV. According to company sources, the motion picture house will be livening up the proceedings in the Palais des Festivals by putting the hot and dishy John Abraham and Bipasha Basu on display at the company's stand. And of course his studio's mascot Rakesh Omprakash Mehra. The company will be promoting a shorter edit version of Rang De Basanti at the market and the festival.

This apart UTV is also throwing a little bash exclusively for distributors on 20 May and Screwvala is going to be talking to them about the studio's plans and forth coming productions and projects for the coming year.

To his credit, Screwvala has been named in an exclusive list of film makers to watch out for in future at the Cannes film fest by global top notch entertainment business magazine Variety. The magazine has labelled him as "the modern face of Indian entertainment." It goes on to add that "he is rebuilding a studio system in the massively fragmented industry while making his UTV a friendly portal for Hollywood to experiment with."

But giving him company in that exclusive list which includes the Weinstein brothers is Lagaan and Jodha Akbar helmer Ashutosh Gowariker.

Can we hear a few gasps of envy going around?
