CANNES:
The 2007 Cannes Film Festival Ecumenical Jury consisting of
chariman Anne Beatrice Schwab (Switzerland), Marina Sanna
(Italy), Jean Yves Fischbach (France) Marisa Villareale (Germany),
Pierre Nambot (France), Catherine Wong (Hong Kong) announced
the winner of its award for the festival on 26 May 2007: Fatih
Akin for his film The Edge of Heaven or Auf Der anderen Seite.
Explaining
why they decided to recognise the work, the jury said: "In
a very accomplished way, this film tells the story of crossed
destinies, in Germany and Turkey, of men and women from different
origins. It sensibly reflects th painful complexity of the
loss of one's bearings and relationships as well as the richness
of encounters, crossings, and living together and getting
these two worlds united. Other issues deal with filliation,
sacrifice and reconcilliation."
This
is the second film of a trilogy being helmed by Akin. The
first was "Head On", which was a big hit amongst
artfilm lovers.
