MUMBAI:Walt Disney Pictures' Tim Burton-directed Frankenweenie will have its world premiere as the opening night film of the Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas on 20 September. It opens wide on 5 October.

"Tim Burton stands as a titan of modern genre cinema," said Fantastic Fest Co-founder & Creative Director Tim League. "To world premiere the feature adaptation of his early beloved short is a huge honor for me personally and for the festival in general."

Based on the short film that launched Burton's career, Frankenweenie is a 3D black-and-white feature about a boy who brings his dead dog Sparky back to life.

The voice cast includes Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short, Martin Landau and Winona Ryder.

The Fantastic Fest runs from 20-27 September.
