MUMBAI: NDTV Lumière, an initiative to
bring contemporary world cinema to India, is
all set to present Retour de Flamme,
a cinema-concert, where a collector of ancient
movies Serge Bromberg displays the films that
he has found and restored over a period through
musical performance.
Conceived
and initiated by Anna Doshi and Bromberg, the
show will be held in Mumbai (9 February), Kolkata
(12 February) and Delhi (14 February).
Since
the year 2008 is "Focus India" for
International Animation Film Festival of Annecy,
Bromberg who is the director of the festival,
will focus his show on the early years of the
film animation.
Referred
as "pure magic offered by a mad lover of
old print," the Retour de Flamme cine-concert
takes place twice a year in Paris.
Bromberg
has been presenting and playing piano accompaniment
at the Retour de Flamme since 1992, reflecting
a desire to share his passion for classic film
with a wide audience.
Commenting
on their association with Retour De Flamme,
NDTV Lumière director Sunil Doshi said,
"NDTV Lumière is an endeavour to
bring the contemporary world cinema to audiences
all across India. Our association with Retour
de Flamme is one such initiative to bridge
this long-existing need of film enthusiasts
here."
Over
the years, Lobster Films, owned by Serge Bromberg
and Eric Lange, has been involved in the preservation,
restoration and distribution of classic cinema
in all its forms since 1985. Their work was
recognised and awarded with the Prix Jean Mitry
in 1997 and was presented at the Giornate del
Cinema Muto in Italy. Bromberg was made Chevalier
des Arts et Lettres in 2002.
For
Retour De Flamme, NDTV Lumière
has partnered with Thomson Foundation, a non-profit
organisation which is involved in the restoration
of films and heritage in India.
