MUMBAI:
After getting tax exemption in the capital city,
Aamir Khans directorial debut film Taare
Zameen Par has now got a tax exemption in
Mumbai from Wednesday. A PVR source confirmed
the news saying that the film is continuing
to make good news.
Taare
Zameen Par opened with 425 prints pan-India
and raked in Rs 150 million at the domestic
box office in the first three days. The marketing
spend of the movie was Rs 30 million.
The
film is reportedly doing well in the overseas
market as well. The PVR source adds that the
film is expected to make bigger money than Om
Shanti Om. The film which released on the
same date as Welcome had its timing right.
The Xmas season was perfect for both the films.
And as both the films had unique content, it
attracted different audiences.
Though
Taare Zameen Par had a slow start it
picked up very well and by the first Monday
it was running houseful shows.
The
distributors' strategy of opening the film at
multiplexes mainly and 'A' class single screens
across the country has paid off. Despite the
initial stand-off between exhibitors and distributors
on revenue sharing, both Taare Zameen Par
and Welcome have managed to do good business.
Now in its third week, things seem to be looking
even better for Taare Zameen Par.
It
appears that instead of fighting with the enemy
(ala OSO Vs Saawariya), it is advisable
to sleep with the enemy.
