MUMBAI:
The first phase of shooting of Mediaone Global Entertainment's
Rajnikant-starrer Kochaidaiyaan has recently been completed
in London and the film has been slated to be released
in September this year.
Kochaidaiyaan
is inspired by the name of Kochadaiyan Ranadhiran, the
Pandya Dynasty king. Son and successor of Arikesari
Maravarman, he asserted his superiority over the Cheras
and Cholas and subdued the Marathas in the city of Mangalapuram,
the modern day Mangalore.
He
also started the hostilities with the Chalukyas of Badami
and the Gangas. He undertook a campaign against the
Ay (Ayangar) chieftains. He defeated them in Kurunadu
in south Travancore after which he earned the allegiance
of the Ay chief.
Bollywood
actress Deepika Padukone is the heroine and the music
has been scored by double Oscar-winner AR Rahman.
Rajinikanth's
daughter Soundarya R Ashwin is directing the film
with the supervision of director-actor KS Ravikumar.
The film stars Rajinikanth and Deepika Padukone besides
R Sarath Kumar, Shobana, Nassar and Jackie Shroff.
The
film is likely to be released in Telugu, English,
Hindi and Japanese.
