Dum Maaro Dum continues the Bollywood flop run

MUMBAI: The ‘flopathone’ continues at cinema halls while cricket has become the top entertainer across India. Tanu Weds Manu, released on the last Friday of February, was the only film to do well at the box office since the World Cup 2011 began which was followed by another cricketing event - the IPL.

However, cricket is not the only culprit. Poor story and script ideas and poorer music scores, without which even the star power fails to work, are much to blame.

The saga of debacles continues for the film industry in general and for Abhishek Bachchan in particular with another dud, Dum Maaro Dum,which released last Friday. Despite enjoying a solo release status and a longer weekend (Good Friday holiday), the film got a lukewarm opening response. If the much touted remixed version of the cult song “Dum maaro dum….” from Dev Anand’s Hare Rama Hare Krishna did not help the film’s opening, the reports of poor content and shoddy handling further killed the film’s chances of cashing in on the weekend. Over the weekend, the film has managed to reach the Rs 130-million mark.

Thank You collected Rs 111 million in its second week, enjoying an open run to take its total to Rs 417 million.

Faltu collected Rs 25 million in its third week, taking its total to date to Rs 226.5 million.

Meanwhile, Game collected a paltry Rs 0.5 million in its third week,
which does not really stir up its total takings of now Rs 54.5 million.
